What is #FreeWebSearch Day about?
Every year on and around 29 September, actions, lectures, info events, webinars and much more take place in many places and on the web. The aim is to inform people about internet search and how it works. And to make people think about how important web search is for all of us today – for us personally and for our free society – and why it must be free and open. To show how we can search better, safer, more trustworthy on the internet. Because everyone should know why we need an open, free internet search and how to get there (again).
How can I
be part of it?
Post information about internet search on your social media accounts, produce memes and pictures or videos about it. Spread the idea of #FreeWebSearchDay and organise events for #FWSD on and around 29 September. Take part in the “Show your Face for #FreeWebSearch” campaign. Teacher, professor? Introduce pupils and students to the secrets of web search, show them alternatives and discuss the consequences of intransparency and secret algorithms. We support you with information and teaching material.
Register your activity?
This is how it works.
Everyone can take part: Companies, data centres, search engines, schools, kindergartens, retirement homes… Think of actions and events (you can find ideas here), register them and off you go!
You already have an idea and want to get active yourself? That’s great! Register at aktion@freewebsearch.org.
